Donald Trump Jr. is the President of the United States of America, but even though the Philippines has had good relationships with the different presidents in the past, the Filipino people didn't welcome Trump as well as the others. There were protests on the streets upon the arrival of the United States President.
It was a chaotic sight as protesters spilled black paint on the printed faces of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and United States President Donald Trump Jr. The tarpaulins read "pasista" which is translated to "fascist" that roughly means dictator or tyrant. To say these to presidents of 2 Democratic nations is ironic but it was what the protesters felt at the time.
The protesters had to be blocked by police and extinguished by the means of water hoses in order to disperse the on-going crowd because it was going to disrupt the sanctity of the gathering of world leaders.
Trump is one of the world leaders present for the Association of Southeast Asian Nation Summit 2017, along with several others from countries all over the world from different continents, not just Asia. Philippines is the host nation this year and despite being surrounded by external controversy, the Summit has gone smoothly.
